So today marks my final day of playing this beta event ... until the next beta event begins. TECHNICALLY, the even doesn't end until 3:00 PM tomorrow (Monday, July 6, 2009), but since I have to work tomorrow, I won't be able to play before they shut down the servers. This is the remaining schedule (unless something changes):
Closed Beta Event #4 - July 17-July 20 Focus: Elyos and Asmodian levels 1-25
Closed Beta Event #5 - July 31-August 3 Focus: TBD
Closed Beta Event #6 - August 14-August 17 Focus: TBD
So ... in about 2 weeks, I'll be able to play again. I may attempt an Elyos this time ... with a different class (maybe scout or warrior). :O) Until then, I wish for you to enjoy these last few shots I took today. I may have gotten a LITTLE bit carried away. :O))
So today, I allowed Maladhiel to focus a bit on crafting. Now ... they don't really tell us how many crafts we are allowed in this event. Perhaps they left that open on purpose so you could get a sampling of all of them ... which I did. Those include sewing, armorsmith, weaponsmith, alchemy, cooking and handicrafting (like making wood and stuff). I think that's all of them.
I threw this shot in because I think that when I attempted it before, it may not have been clear. There are two ways to view the map. One way is the typical way - your screen basically fills with the map with your position on it. What I like about Aion's map system is that you can move and change direction while the map is open. You can't do that in WoW (which annoys the hell out of me). The second way is "transparent" mode. That's what you see above. Me likey!
Mal finally saved up enough Kinah (that's the name of the currency) to get some new armor. Sorry that the pics are a bit dark. The room she was standing in was not well-lighted.
Ever since I leveled to 10 and chose what path I wanted Mal to take (Spiritmaster), I've been ripping my hair out trying to figure out how to summon her elemental pet. I had no button commands, no icons, NOTHING. It was becoming quite frustrated. I visited the forums this afternoon and finally learned that when you reach level 10 and have chosen a profession, when you visit your trainer (in Mal's case, that would be the Mage Trainer) there are now two buttons - one for Sorcerer and one of Spiritmaster. In clicking the Spiritmaster button, I came upon a new book (Summon Fire Elemental Level I). :O))
It sorta kinda reminds me of the Voidwalker my Warlock has in WoW. :O) But way cooler. It's FIRE!! :O))
Two of Mal's crafting quests asked that she make steel ingots. She couldn't make those without iron ore ... so here she is extracting the vitality from the iron ore.
I discovered that there is an emote that allows you to unfurl your characters wings. So ... I got carried way taking pictures. Please, forgive me as I inundate you all with WING SPAM (see below)!
We now return you to your regularly scheduled program. :OD))
Ah ... cooking. She's attempting to roast some clams.
If it turns out that when the game is released, you can only choose one or two crafts, Alchemy will be one of Maladhiel's (who will be recreated when the game is released ... as our toons will be unavailable at launch). She looks so studios mixing her chemicals and things together. :O)
Ye Olde Alchemy Crafting hall. :O))
I missed a double-shot of this, but what you are seeing is what happens when a character equips an item that is soulbound. It's pretty neat. :O) She floated up in the air, a rune symbol appeared around her ... and POOF. :O) It was really fun to watch.
This is the wind elemental. Unfortunately, it's not mine. Mal was only level 12 in this image ... and you have to be level 13 to learn to summon such a creature.
Sewing. :O)
Weaponcrafting - hence the floating, red transparent sword. :O))
Armorcrafting - hence the floating, red transparent armor. :O)) What I like about the armor/weaponcrafting is that when they pound the anvil and the hammer bounces (as is what tends to happen), the red transparent sword/armor bounces in time to the hammer. :O))
A lovely evening ...
A close up of the Fire Elemental.
Before logging off, I managed to push Mal to level 13. Here she is summoning her Wind Elemental. I wish we could name them ... cuz they don't have names ... not even game-generated ones. *pout*
And at the end of this 4 day adventure, this is what Maladhiel's UI bar looked like. :O))
I would like to close this, my first beta experience, my first of many Aion beta experiences, to say that I enjoyed myself immensely. I wish I had more time to explore all of the facets of the game. I think my favorite part (thus far) is the ability to fly. I love it, Love it, LOVE IT! Wish I had my own pair of wings. That would be neat.
Maladhiel thanks you all for following her around and she hopes to be back when the game launches in September. When next I update, it will be the 4th beta event ... and I'll be playing with a different character. Until then!

Hopefully next time you can create a male for us, even if you then delete him and play a female? Or else take pictures of the men around you a bit more. I really wanna see if the player-created guys are all as ugly as the one you took a picture of with that dagger. :-)
Actually, you CAN move and change direction when the map is open in WoW. I do it all the time. *blinks* But I love the semi-transparent overlay map there, especially that it appears to show you exactly where you are on it!
Mal's new armor makes her boobies look even bigger than they did before! *snickers* That alone may make my husband willing to try out this game. *cackles*
Glad you figured out how to get to your pets and stuff! And that fire elemental looks wicked cool. :-D
What's the emote you use to unfurl your wings? (/unfurl or something obvious? Or is it something bizarre?) Hehe, her head is getting lost in her wings though, on a lot of those pictures! *giggles*
Shouldn't she have the pan OVER the fire, if she's roasting something? Instead of standing several feet away from the stove? *grins*
I love the graphics for alchemy!
Huh! I like the wind elemental, that they didn't try to make it "look like a cloud" or something. Very neat!
OMG, sewing looks SO COOL! Neatest looking animations you've shown us yet!
Aww, I hope they implement names for the elementals, even if you don't get to choose them.
Very busy UI bar already! I wonder how many more icons you'll have as you level or will they just start becoming improvements on what you have. Or a mix of both, like with WoW.
I -adored- flying in City of Heroes, although I didn't get neat wings to do it with. But flying was SO MUCH FUN! (Of course, super-leaping was pretty cool too. Teleportation was neat, but mostly because of how I roleplayed that particular character's ability to do so.)
